Ensuring Your Loved One Has the Best Caregivers
Nursing home abuse and neglect are huge problems across the country and here in Washington state. Many people are rightfully worried about the quality of care that their loved ones receive in both assisted living facilities and with hired at-home caregivers.
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ensure that the caregiver tending to your loved one is the best fit possible. According to the AARP, you should insist on consistency, and be as picky about the fit between your loved one and the aide on a personal level as you are about the aide’s professional credentials.
A Constant Fit
When you are choosing a company to work with, make sure to ask how many nursing aides will be attending to your loved one. In this case, you want as few people as possible. Having different aides for different shifts is generally more beneficial to the company as compared to your loved one. You will need to talk with each individual aide working with your loved one and this can get tiresome if there are too many.
A Perfect Fit
Ensuring that your loved one connects on a personal level with the aide is also paramount. Even if the aide him or herself is perfectly responsible and adequate in terms of giving your loved one care, it is possible that your loved one and the aide will not connect on a personal level. Finding the right nursing aide is a lot like finding a good date. Do not be shy in asking the staffing company for different aides if the connection between the current aide and your loved one is not there.
